How To Reduce Bruises After Botox

Using fillers such as Botox is a great way for people to reduce the appearance of their wrinkles and generally feel more confident about their appearance. However, like any procedure, cosmetic Botox can have some side effects such as bruising or rashes. Many of these side effects will be reduced if the person who is injecting the Botox is very experienced and knows exactly what to do, but the chance of side effects is still there. Here are some tips that you can follow in order to reduce the chance that you experience side effects.

1. See if Your Dermatologist Offers Numbing Cream

The easiest way to avoid bruises and generally have a more pleasant Botox experience is to use numbing cream. Numbing cream needs to be applied twenty to thirty minutes before the actual Botox procedure begins in order for it to start to work. When it does start to work, it will constrict the blood vessels in the area where it is applied, reducing the amount of bruising that occurs. Because of the additional time requirements for this cream to work, you might need to contact your dermatologist's office to see if they offer it and if you need to come in early in order to get the treatment.

2. Apply Ice Immediately After the Treatment

Next, you are going to want to apply ice to the treatment areas immediately, preferably while you are in the car going home. Most dermatologist offices will be willing to supply you with a bag of ice that you can apply. Ask ahead of time and if they will not give you ice for your trip home, bring a bag of frozen vegetables or your own ice pack and ask to leave it in their freezer to retrieve when you go home. Immediate application of ice constricts the blood vessels in the area where ice is applied to reduce the appearance of bruises.

3. Stay Away From Yoga, Especially Inversions

Finally, try to avoid excessive blood flow to your face, because it will increase the amount of bruising that you experience. Instead, keep your heart rate as close to resting as possible and stay away from yoga and any moves that would cause you to put your head lower than your heart. Do this until your treatment has settled, a time that will be told to you by your dermatologist.
